Tesco debuts "free broadband" offer

Tesco is currently giving away a £30 giftcard to customers who opt for its £2.50 per month broadband (they need to quote GIFTCARD-A at checkout) on a one-year contract, essentially making the offer free.

Users, however, will still need to pay the £13.75 monthly line rental. After 12 months, the free broadband will revert to £6.50 per month on a 30-day rolling contract.

Tesco’s landline offer includes evening and weekend 0845/0870 and landline calls, no set-up fee, three Clubcard points for every pound spent (potentially 585 points or £5.85 worth in Clubcard vouchers), the ability to keep your existing number, a wireless router, unlimited downloads (subject to fair usage policy) and UK-based customer service.

Tesco’s broadband uses O2’s back-end infrastructure and so depends on it to provide an effective service. Expect speeds of up to 14Mbps across the network, although Tesco’s official wording is that you’ll get the fastest broadband speed available on your line.

TalkTalk is another Internet service provider that has been offering free broadband on the premise that you pay for the landline.
