Sumvision launches £170 supercharged iPad 2-like Android tablet

Online retailer Ebuyer has put the Sumvision Titan tablet PC on preorder for £170 including free delivery. The tablet appears to be the first of a new series of devices that introduce a number of features only found on high-end devices.

For example, it has a Rockchip RK3066 processor, which is a dual-core Cortex-A9-based CPU clocked at 1.6GHz coupled with a quad-core Mali 400 GPU. That’s not far from the A5X that Apple uses in the New iPad (iPad 3) and far more potent than the original A5 processor.

Other noteworthy features include 1GB of RAM, 16GB of flash storage, a microSD card slot, a 9.7in IPS display with a 1,024 x 768 resolution (the same as the iPad 2), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a VGA front-facing camera and a 2-megapixel rear one, two USB ports and a micro HDMI one.

The battery capacity is unknown but we suspect that the Titan will be followed by a number of other similar tablets that will offer iPad 2 performance and specifications for around half the price.

In comparison, the Google Nexus 7 doesn’t come with a rear camera, an HDMI port or an expansion slot but does offer a higher pixel density, a higher resolution, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (rather than Ice Cream Sandwich) and a more powerful processor.
