Price of Acer Iconia Windows 7 tablet slashed to £228

Acer currently has a cashback scheme running on the Iconia W500 Windows tablet, where prospective buyers can get a whopping £100 off the price. The promotion ends tomorrow night, but claims can be processed until 20 October 2012.

The tablet – which was launched early last year - carries an SRP of £383 but Acerdirect has it in stock for £327.97 before the cash back hacks its price down to £227.98.

The W500 runs on a 1GHz dual-core AMD C-50 APU with 1MB L2 cache, plus 80 Radeon HD6250 cores clocked at 276MHz. Other features include 2GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, Wi-Fi, Windows 7 Home Premium (with an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro costing only £15), a 10.1in 1,280 x 800 display, a 1.4-megapixel front facing camera, a microSD card reader, three cell battery and a few Acer applications.

The tablet even has an optional detachable keyboard docking station accessory that converts it into a fully-fledged laptop with an Ethernet port, a USB port and a pointing device.

Interestingly enough, enthusiasts should, in theory, be able to run Chrome OS or even Android (and indeed any flavours of Linux) on it.
