HP is currently running a campaign where you can get 50 per cent off a qualifying LTO-5 tape autoloader when you buy one server from a selected range (ProLiant DL360, DL380 and DL385).

In addition, if you buy a qualifying HP Care Pack for the autoloader and the server services, HP will refund half the cost of the Autoloader HP care pack.

HP lists nearly 20 so-called top value servers with the cheapest, the DL360G7, costing £1,009 while the most expensive tape autoloader, a fibre-channel model, carries a list price of £5,209, which means that you could get up to £2,605 in cash back.

The LTO-5 tape autoloader is pitched as an entry level or remote office automated backup solution which can offer up to 24TB of compressed storage capacity with on-the-fly encryption in a 1U chassis.

LTO-5 – which was released two years ago - is expected to be superseded by LTO-6 with a maximum data transfer speed of 400MB/sec and a native data capacity of 2.5TB and a compressed storage capacity of up to 6.25TB.
