IFA 2012: ITProPortal’s James Laird tells CNBC what we can expect in Berlin this week

As the world’s media descends on Berlin ahead of the annual IFA trade conference this week, one member of ITProPortal’s team in Germany has offered his own verdict on what we can expect at this year’s show.

US satellite network CNBC asked James Laird where the spotlight will be falling over the next few days at IFA, with James pointing to the significance of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 launch. He says the Korean firm will be desperate to bounce back from the Apple patent trial verdict last week, which saw the jury award over $1 billion in damages to Samsung’s bitter rival.

James suggests the 5.5in Galaxy Note 2, a phone/tablet hybrid that sees it enter the ‘phablet’ market, could be crucial in stealing the limelight away from Apple.

The Cupertino giant is set to release its next-gen iPhone and iPad ‘Mini’ later this year, and James says Samsung will hope the Galaxy Note 2 wins over consumers currently holding out for Apple’s products.
