What the Samsung Ativ S taught me about the Nokia Lumia 920

Samsung stole a march from Nokia last week when it unveiled its Ativ S smartphone, a flagship smartphone based on Windows Phone 8 and shares a few common features with the Galaxy S3.

The phone is 4G capable, has a HD screen, NFC capabilities and smaller tiles. There’s also what looks like a front facing camera and a Windows 8-like home button.

What does the Ativ S teaches us about the Lumia 920? Well for a start, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor seems a given. The most probable candidate is the MSM8960 which comes with 4G capabilities – something likely to appear on the Lumia 920 - and can be clocked at 1.5GHz.

This is a massive jump from the MSM8255T single-core model. The MSM8960 should also boost the graphics capabilities of the handset as well.

The Lumia 920 will almost certainly come with a HD display, a mammoth jump from the standard 800 x 480 pixels, a 140 per cent increase in pixel count means that the improved GPU is more than welcome.

Based on the Ativ S shot below, Yammer and Skype are also likely candidates to feature alongside Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and Skydrive on the home screen.

Other rumours that have popped up about the Lumia 920 include a 4.5in display, 32Gb of storage, 1GB of RAM, wireless inductive charging and a Pureview camera, none of which can be verified or confirmed.
