Question-and-answer site Quora today announced the overhaul of its topic pages and the addition of homepage trending topics.
The biggest change, according to Quora, comes in the form of the topic feed, which now highlights the best content in that subject area, without losing the customised feeling of a user's homepage. In a ground-up redesign, the site's topic page now combines the feed with three sections on each page: About, Questions, and Manage.
With a topic overview that is open to community editing, the "About" tab provides a description, FAQ, and location information. Click on the "Questions" link for complete lists of all queries that have been added to that topic, and gain access to a log of recent changes to a topic via the "Manage" button.
Previously viewed content from any of the five topic groups – technology and business, politics and economics, entertainment, life advice, and other diverse news and interests – will be removed from the user's topic feed, Quora designer David Cole wrote in a company blog post.
The new topic experience aims to make each topic page a better resource for someone looking for more information on a certain subject, according to Cole.
Additionally, the site has integrated trending topics (a la Twitter), which help users keep track of what other questioners are enquiring about at any given time.
"With the vast breadth of our topic system, and the steady cycles of current events, it's not always easy to know where the best content on Quora is," Cole said.
Trending topics are displayed on the right side of the Quora homepage, where users can find feeds for any popular topic.
User feedback is welcome, Cole said, as the team continues to improve its topics offerings.
"This summer has brought content from many news and events onto Quora, and we're excited for you to check out the latest trending topics list and new topic page to discover content-rich areas you may not have been following on Quora yet," Cole said.
