Chinese behemoth Huawei is set to become the fourth and last Windows Phone 8 launch partner to unveil handsets based on Microsoft’s latest mobile platform.
According to Chinese website Winp.cn, the announcement will come next week on 25 September and could see the unveiling of the mid-range Huawei Ascend W1 and the Ascend W2.
The first device is said to be a mid-range phone competing with the Nokia Lumia 820 and the HTC Windows 8S, while the second will be the flagship product for Huawei, and will be pitted against the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows 8X.
Both devices should come to market by the end of the year. Microsoft hasn’t announced when Windows Phone 8 will go on sale although one can guess that it will happen shortly after Windows 8 (whose official launch is on the 25 October).
LG, Acer and ZTE, which already have Windows Phone handsets, are expected to launch Windows Phone 8 devices in early 2013. Of the other major device manufacturers, only Sony Mobile and Alcatel-TCL have yet to announce formal plans to support Windows Phone 8.
