You know those extra-baggy combat trousers you thought were such a great idea back in the 90s? Turns out you might want to dust them off in the near future, as Samsung has announced that the latest iteration of its oversized Galaxy Note handset is set to descend on UK shops in less than a week's time.
The Galaxy Note 2 will land earlier than expected, arriving on Monday, 1 October at the Korean manufacturer's flagship retail outlet at the Westfield Stratford shopping centre in East London – it's where that whole Olympic palaver went down, remember?
Samsung's new "phablet" is then confirmed to roll out to high street outlets Phones 4u and the Carphone Warehouse on 2 October. The device, which features a 5.5in display, is set to be available on all major UK networks, with a contact via Phones 4u confirmed as dancing to a fairly pricey tune: £41 a month for a two-year deal featuring unlimited calls and messaging, and a 1GB-a-month data allowance.
Launched at IFA 2012 in Berlin, the Galaxy Note 2 is one of the autumn's most eagerly anticipated product launches.
"We were delighted by the hugely positive response we received when we first announced the Galaxy Note 2 at IFA back in August," said Simon Stanford, Vice President, of Samsung UK and Ireland.
"The Galaxy Note 2 is a whole new level of innovation and we are confident users are going to enjoy the updated features and design of our latest Galaxy device when it hits the shelves on the 1st of October," he added.
In addition to its über-expansive screen, the Note 2 also includes advanced stylus support via the S-Pen peripheral and will arrive pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Somewhat bizarrely, Samsung's availability announcement wasn't accompanied by a complete pricing reveal. While it hasn't been confirmed, expect the SIM-free tag to be in the region of the £545 figure floated by online retailers like Unlocked Mobile.
Of course, what consumers will really be wondering is whether or not the Galaxy Note 2 is a legitimate alternative to the iPhone 5 - it made it on to our list of the top five iPhone 5 rivals, and you can also mull over an in-depth spec comparison between Apple's new handset and the latest Samsung "phablet."
If it's the Note 2's comparatively scrawny sibling the Galaxy S3 you're interested in comparing, we've got that covered too.
