Box is bringing enhanced IT management and enterprise security features to its cloud-based storage service.

The company has joined forces with the data loss prevention outfit Proofpoint, so that files uploaded to Box folders can be monitored and unauthorised actions will be detected and reported. This option will become available in the first quarter of 2013.

IT administrators are now able to connect Box's usage data with third-party business intelligence products, with the introduction of a new application programming interface. This means that user activity within the broader business intelligence platform can be analysed by administrators.

Whitney Block, general manager of the enterprise division at Box, said, "We continue to commit to security as a critical part of our system."

Additionally, an extra step is being added to the login process, which will happen this week, and the system's search functionality has been revamped in beta mode, designed to provide extra efficiency.
