Lenovo-built £150 Vodafone Smart Tab II is UK’s cheapest 3G tablet

Vodafone has teamed up with Lenovo to bring out a new tablet called the Smart Tab II which is 3G capable and runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. At £150 on PAYG, this is the cheapest 3G-enabled tablet we’ve seen on the market, one which can potentially make calls anywhere using 3G and any VoIP application like Skype or Rebtel.

The tablet appears to be a variant of the LePad A2107 which was launched in Taiwan back in September 2012. Like the latter, the Smart Tab II comes with a MediaTek MT6575 single-core system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz with a PowerVR SGX GPU, a 3G modem, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and FM transmitter and receiver.

Other features include a 7in 1,024 x 600 capacitive display, a front and back-facing camera and a microSD card slot. The PAYG price includes 500MB worth of data valid for 60 days. A 250MB data topup costs £5 and is valid for 30 days.

Alternatively, a pay monthly plan is also available for £20 per month on a two year contract with an upfront fee of £29. You get 2GB data allowance plus 1GB of Wi-Fi data.

Another cheaper alternative tablet is the ZTE Light Tab 2 V9A which is SIM Free but only comes with Android 2.2 Froyo and 512MB of RAM.
