Premium streaming service LoveFilm has released a new app for the Nintendo Wii, following on from the launch of the game developer’s next-gen console, the Wii U. The new application comes a year after gracing Xbox 360 and two years after coming to the PS3.
Conventional Wii owners can now download the app from the Wii Shop Channel. However, users will need to sign up for either a 30 day free trail or an off-the-bat £4.99 per month LoveFilm membership to gain access to streaming content.
Wii U owners will have to wait for the service, but an imminent launch has been promised on the new HD console.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with LoveFilm to offer Wii owners and soon Wii U owner’s on-demand film and TV content to enjoy. LoveFilm has a proven track record of success and innovation in film distribution and is a very welcome addition," said marketing & PR director for Nintendo UK, Shelly Pearce.
Early adopters to the new HD console do have alternatives available to them if unable to endure the wait, as rival on-demand service Netflix can be accessed via installing a day-one patch.
