Check out this £400 laptop that has 16GB RAM & a 1TB HDD

The Zoostorm 7873-9042 laptop is symptomatic of how far (and fast) things have moved over the last decade. Here is a laptop powered by a dual-core processor that can clock up to up to 3.1GHz (that’s a Core i5-3210M with a 2.5GHz stock speed and 3MB L2 cache), has two 8GB memory modules running each at 1.33GHz and a 1TB hard disk drive.

What’s incredible is the selling price. At less than £400 including free delivery, it represents fantastic value for money despite the lack of OS. The fact that manufacturers have been able to squeeze so much performance into such a portable and commoditised form factor is jaw-dropping.

What the Zoostorm laptop is proposing was two decades ago, supercomputer stuff, and a solution that would not only cost 100 times more than it does today but also weigh much more and consume significantly more power.

Other features include a DVD writer, a 15.6in 1,366x768 pixels, GbE port, VGA, HDMI, a card reader, Wi-Fi, Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, one USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a webcam, a numeric keypad but no operating system. Adding this will bump the price by another £50 or so.
