BlackBerry teams up with GetTaxi app to offer free cab rides this Christmas

Research In Motion has announced that BlackBerry is teaming up with taxi-ordering app GetTaxi to offer users a free taxi ride this Christmas.

Users of BlackBerry smartphones can now get a £7 black cab credit if they use the GetTaxi app through the BlackBerry App World. To redeem the voucher for your first journey, users will have to enter the code 'BlackBerry' into the 'me' section of the app.

Get Taxi app lets users book a cab via the app using a GPS location system so the taxi can easily reach the customer.

The alliance is the latest feature revealed by Blackberry, who last month launched an updated version of its famed messenger, BBM. The BBM version 7 now offers free voice calls over a Wi-Fi connection.

BlackBerry fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of RIM's new operating system BlackBerry 10, which is set to launch next month, alongside a selection of new smartphones. The company is hoping the new releases will revive its fortunes, as the firm has seen a colossal 90 per cent knocked off its share price in recent years with customers typically switching to Android and iOS handsets.
