Samsung is gearing up to launch an 8in Galaxy Note at next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to reports from Korean news site iNews24. The confirmation of the super-sized device’s existence came directly from JK Shin, head of Samsung’s mobile unit.
A mysterious spec sheet that surfaced online last week suggested a Galaxy Note with an 8in Super Clear LCD display, a 5-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and a massive 4,600mAh battery could be on the way.
The so-called Galaxy Note 8 is likely set to compete against the 7.9in iPad mini and the 7in Google Nexus 7, both of which have demonstrated a shift in consumer tastes towards devices that are smaller than the 10in tablet of yore.
The Korean firm’s CES announcements were disappointing on the mobile and tablet front, leading many to speculate that it could be preparing to announce a rash of new products in Barcelona, including a much-rumoured Galaxy S4.
