£44.90 Sony Xperia Tipo: UK’s cheapest smartphone with Android 4.0 ICS

E2Save, a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse, is selling the Sony Xperia Tipo smartphone, which was launched last year, for £44.90.

The price excludes a compulsory £10 top-up on T-Mobile (on the network’s Free Text for Life PAYG tariff).

Note that the phone is a refurbished model but other than the brown box, there’s little difference between the brand new version and this one. It is also almost a certainty that this model is unlocked and unbranded.

The Xperia Tipo – which we reviewed back in August 2012 - is an entry-level smartphone so don’t expect too much out of it; at less than 100g and with a thickness of 13mm though, it is tiny compared to mainstream models.

It comes with a 3.2in 320 x 480 capacitive display, it is powered by a single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM SoC clocked at 800MHz, backed by 2.5GB onboard storage and 512MB of RAM.

Other features include a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, a microSD card slot, GPS, a microUSB port, up to 30 hours battery life, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and access to Google Play.

If you are brand agnostic and are on O2, then the Alcatel One-Touch OT983 might be a better alternative since it has a bigger screen and a much better processor.
