Picture of Huawei Ascend P2 smartphone appears online

The follow-up of the Ascend P1, one of the thinnest smartphones on the market, is set to be launched at MWC 2013 in Barcelona next month according to online mobile news outlet, Unwiredview, which doesn’t provide with more details about its source.

The Ascend P2 is expected to have a quad-core system-on-chip, possibly Huawei’s own HiSilicon K2V3 model clocked at 1.8GHz. Other expected features include 2GB of RAM, a camera with a 13-megapixel sensor, a 4.5in 1,920 x ,1080 full HD display, a massive 3000mAh battery, Android Jelly Bean (with a customised user interface) and a rather good looking design that reminds us of the LG Optimus L series.

The configuration is almost identical to the Huawei Ascend D2 which was launched at CES earlier this year. We suspect that the P2 will be pitched at a price comparable to the D2 and will remain a top-of-the-range model.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take for the P2 (and the D2 and the Mate) to reach availability in the UK.

Historically, there has been a long delay between Huawei’s (paper) launches and the actual availability of products which has proved to be counterproductive
