Sub-£150 tablets with Retina Display and quad-core CPUs appear

We managed to track down two tablets from China that cost around £150 and come with a so-called retina display (one that matches the size, screen ratio and screen resolution of Apple’s iPad) and a four-core chipset.

The Nextway F9X and the Ainol Novo9 Spark are available at Pandawill and Ainol for $220 and $240 respectively and they share a lot of similarities which leaves us to believe that they may be built by the same manufacturer but rebranded and resold.

They are both powered by the AllWinner A31 quad core SoC and is based on the Cortex-A7 with a PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU. There’s also 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot and a 9.7in IPS display with a 1,536 x 2,048 resolution.

The Ainol model comes with a front facing 2-megapixel camera and a rear 5-megapixel one, a 10,000 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, HDMI, a weight of 642g and a thickness of 10.6mm.

The Nextway one on the other hand has a VGA front facing camera and a rear 2-megapixel one plus an 8,000mAh battery; it weighs 649g and is 9.8mm thick. Note that both do not come with Bluetooth.
