Mobile developers and adventurous members of the public will be able to get their hands on a developer preview of Ubuntu's mobile platform beginning 21 February. The open source code will work with the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Nexus 4 smartphones.
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, announced last month that it planned to release the preview by late February before coming out with actual Ubuntu-powered smartphones later in the year.
Canonical warned that the preview is still in progress, pointing out that the software is intended for development purposes only. The company said it hopes that it will give developers the hands-on experience needed to get a clear idea of how it actually stands up against other OS available in the market, such as Google’s Android.
Full instructions on how to install the software will be made available on the Ubuntu Wiki following the release date, so anybody who wants to try it out can do so as soon as it is released.
