Asda puts Sony Xperia Z smartphone bundle on preorder for £499

UK Supermarket Asda has put the promising Sony Xperia Z smartphone on preorder for £499 with a free accessory bundle which it says is worth over £100. The cheapest locked Xperia Z is available from Three for £460. The accessories on offer include the Sony SRS-BTV5 NFC speakers (£55 at Amazon), the Sony DK26 docking station (£42.99 at Expansys) and the Xperia Z case.

The handset will be officially unveiled this week during a special event in London, with nationwide availability expected from 28 February. It was announced together with the Xperia ZL at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year.

It comes with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1.5GHz with an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage and a 5in 1,920 x 1,080 display.

Other features include being resistant to water and dust, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a glass fiber-polyamide chassis, anti-shatter film, Android 4.1 Jelly bean, up to 11 hours battery life thank to Sony’s proprietary Stamina technology and a thickness of only 7.9mm.

You can get the Xperia Z for as little as £21.33 per month on a two year contract if you don’t want to shell out nearly £500 in one go.
