Versus Touchtab 7: UK’s cheapest tablet with a capacitive display

Carphone Warehouse has slashed the cost of the Versus Touchtab 7 tablet down to £49 including free delivery, making it by far the cheapest tablet from a recognized brand and with a capacitive display on the market.

There are a few things that set it apart from other white label models on sale in the UK around that price

Firstly, it comes with Android 4.0 ICS, which means that it can, unlike so many others access Google Playstore. Then, there’s the not-so-insignificant fact that it comes with 8GB of onboard memory PLUS a microSD card slot.

Other features include a Cortex-A8 system on chip with one core and clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, a battery with 3,000mAh capacity (with up to four hours battery life), a 7in 800 x 480 pixels display but no details about whether it comes with a front facing camera.

At 10mm thick and with a weight of 400g, it will certainly be a very good tablet for younger children or as a cheap remote control replacement.

On a side note, the fact that devices with capacitive display are now so cheap surely indicates that resistive displays, like dot-matrix printers, are all-but-dead and will be restricted to very niche markets.
