Orange launched the Lumo, Nivo and San Remo last week as part of its popular ODM strategy and we managed to get more details about them as well as a few pictures. All three models are quite different from one other and aimed at different markets.
The Orange Lumo is the one that’s probably get heads to turn. It is the first ever 4G Orange smartphone with LTE capabilities, a massive 4.5in 960 x 540 pixel display, an 8-megapixel camera, 512MB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage with a microSD card slot, Android 4.1 JB and a dual-core SoC from Qualcomm, the MSM8930 clocked at 1.2GHz.
We believe it will probably be the cheapest 4G smartphone on the market when it launches. Interestingly, Orange’s cheapest 4G device, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, currently sells for £300 and comes with similar features. We expect the Lumo to sell for less than £200 in order to ramp up 4G adoption amongst users.
The San Remo is a rebadged Alcatel One-Touch Idol smartphone which means that it is just as thin at 8.2mm. It has a slightly bigger display than the Lumo with the same resolution, is 3G-only, a camera with 8-megapixel camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a dual-core Mediatek MTK6577 system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage plus a 1,800 mAh.
The last smartphone on offer is the Nivo. Built by Gigabyte, it has a 4in display with a 800 x 480 pixels, a dual-course a 5-megapixel camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It appears to be a straight replacement for the Orange San Francisco II. The biggest improvement remains the Qualcomm MSM8255 SoC clocked at 1GHz.
Note that these smartphones may end up on EE’s product portfolio depending on whether its product buyers consider those to be compelling. Orange confirmed that prices will be disclosed closer to the launch dates as well as any details regarding whether they will be available on PAYG or pay monthly.
All three will also support an Orange Assistant feature that act like shortcuts and allow new smartphone users to access or manage features more easily.
