Twitter launches native app for Windows 8

Months after announcing that it was developing a native app for Microsoft's latest operating system, Twitter has finally made the Twitter for Windows 8 and Windows RT app available in the Windows Store.

In addition to standard features like the Home, Connect, Me and Discover tabs, the new app brings a range of new, Windows 8-optimised features, including a Live Tile that allows users to see their notifications on the Start Screen.

The app also includes support for Windows 8's Search and Share charms, with the former allowing users to look up hashtags and other users from within the app, and the latter enabling users to tweet links quickly. Another feature, Snap View, makes it possible for users to see their timeline while performing other tasks.

Twitter has shown an emphasis on images in the app, with functions like tapping a photo to make it full-screen and a landscape layout that brings photos front and centre.
