HP is selling the Slate 7 tablet for just under £119, down from £129 until 28 April. You have to use the voucher code VC8ALL at checkout in order to get that price.
Demand for the tablet, we understand, has been significant despite the fact that it is not very different from many similar dual-core devices on the market.
The Slate 7 comes with a Rockchip RK3066 clocked at 1.6GHz, based on the Cortex-A9, with a quad-core Mali-400 GPU. There’s also 1GB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a 7in display with a 1,024 x 600 pixel display, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Beats Audio technology with two speakers, a rear 3-megapixel camera with a front facing VGA one, a microSd card slot, a microUSB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
HP has also bundled a number of services with the tablet including WildVine, HP ePrint as well as aHP Native Android Print capabilities. There are a number of other alternatives on the market although none of them come from a tier-1 vendor like HP. We tracked down a rival to the Nexus 7 for £60 from China with a superior hardware and the cheaper Archos 80 Titanium that’s an attractive alternative.
