S2510BU3PW preview: an external HDD enclosure with encryption is a one-stop shop for computer-related products. Perhaps they're not always the most affordable, but if the product you're looking for exists, you bet they have it. And more importantly, they are able to order it for you, quickly. So no more waiting for weeks on a part that you really need. Today we are reviewing a product from them, the USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA Enclosure with Encryption S2510BU3PW.

In more plain English, it's a casing where you put a 2.5-inch SSD or hard disk in, in order to connect it externally via USB 3.0. It's also equipped with 256-bit AES encyption, which is still considered to be very effective. You enter the password via the little numeric touchpad on top of the device.

It's a very complete package. The box includes the case, a USB 3.0 cable, a power cord for when the USB connection doesn't provide enough juice, a cloth for wiping the disk, a soft container and even a mini screwdriver. The manual is included both on paper and on a cd-rom. It's great to have all the tools to quickly get started.

You don't need any drivers or software in order to use the USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA Enclosure with Encryption. That's a big advantage over many other external disks that require software in order to encrypt the contents. On those you wouldn't be able to view the encrypted data on a USB-equipped TV for example, but this Startech drive doesn't have the same problem. The drive itself weighs 94 grams, and including the hard disk or SSD that will be about double that in total. You can fit disks with a maximum height of 9.5 mm.
