Will Samsung launch a smartphone with a 6in display?

The Korean technology giant will apparently launch a 6in smartphone in the quarter of 2013 (which ends on 30 June); that's what a report from OLED-display purports. The device which may or may not be the Galaxy Note 3 will not, according to the publication, use high definition LCD display.

We're not sure what that could mean. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 1,920 x 1.080 resolution for a 5in Super AMOLED plus display (and a pixel density of 441ppi). The Galaxy Note 2 had a 5.5in one with a 1,280 x 720 pixel resolution. We would therefore expect a 6in smartphone (which we suspect will be the Galaxy Note 3) to come with a full HD resolution. Anything less and it will be nothing more than an inbetweener slotted between the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Mega 6.3.

OLED-display produced a table that showed the expected number of 6in panels; in theory, up to 6.5 million units per month although that number is likely to be less. OLED says that Samsung-display may have already delivered equipment for the 6in displays which means that Samsung may soon start the production of the unnamed 6in device.
