Japanese manufacturer Toshiba gathered the tech press in London this morning for a multiple product launch that saw three new Android tablets break cover.
The entry-level Excite Pure was unveiled alongside the higher-spec Excite Pro and Excite Write – the latter packing a pen (below) and handwriting technology to bring workplace functionality to a full-size slate.
Sharing largely the same makeup, the Toshiba Excite Pro and Excite Write sport 10.1in displays with a 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution, run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, are powered by Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 processor, have 2GB RAM, offer 16GB or 32GB storage with a micro SD slot enabling expansion, have a 1.2-megapixel front camera with a 8-megapixel snapper on the rear, as well as micro-USB 2.0 and HDMI micro ports, while the 32GGB models support 3G LTE connectivity.
The tablets come in ‘precious silver’ colour and can be attached to a Surface-esque keyboard cover from Toshiba. Shipping with the all-important Digitizer Pen and ‘TruNote’ handwriting capabilities, the Toshiba Excite Write hits the high end of the market at £499, while the sans-pen Excite Pro (below) is priced from £349.
Completing Toshiba’s tablet treble this morning was the Excite Pure, priced at £249 and specced accordingly. The Pure has a 10.1in 1,280 x 800 pixel display, runs Android 4.2, is powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor boosted by 1GB RAM, provides 16GB storage with a slot for expasion, has a 1.2-megapixel front camera and a 3-megapixel cam on the rear, and also sports micro-USB and HDMI micro ports.
Release dates for the Excite tablets were not confirmed by Toshiba this morning, though our US counterparts believe they'll be able to get hold of them from 25 June via ToshibaDirect.com. We'll keep you posted about UK availability.
