The MSI CX61 was the first Haswell family of laptops to be released by a recognized PC manufacturer and we already considered one unit previously, one which sold for £650. Online retailer Saveonlaptops sells a slightly more expensive model, the CX61 2OD-011UK, for £700, one which delivers an improved set of hardware which may appeal to many.
As expected, it shares a number of features with its predecessor like a quad-core Intel Core i7-4702MQ processor clocked at 2.2GHz with a 3.2GHz turbo boost, 8GB of RAM, 1TB hard disk drive, Windows 8, GbE connectivity and a dedicated Nvidia Geforce GT 740M GPU with 2GB of RAM.
The two improvements which, in my view, are worth the £50 extra cost include a Blu-ray optical drive and a 15.6in full HD display with an anti-glare coating. An even more expensive model with 16GB of RAM is also on offer although we're not convinced that it is worth the price at £750.
As it is the case for most laptops from Save On Laptops, this one also comes with a 12-months license to BullGuard Internet Security. We encourage you to take a glance at how does Intel's Haswell compare to Ivy Bridge CPUs?.
