Samsung CLX-8385NX preview: User-friendly office printer

After we reviewed the Xerox ColorQube 8700/8900 some time ago, we sat around wondering how a laser printer of that size might compare. The Samsung CLX-8385NX fits the criteria. Prices vary depending on the included service package but Samsung's site has a link to two online retailers. With installation and a five-year service support pack, it costs £7,638, while with installation and a three-year service agreement, it costs £4,540.

The Samsung CLX-8385NX certainly isn't for your living room, not even when you remove the two trays underneath the main part, turning it into a desktop model. You'd probably also want a sizeable office and staff list before you consider buying one of these all-in-ones. The CLX-8385NX measures 80 x 64 x 56cm, excluding the two extra trays.

The hardware inside this all-in-one proves that this is definitely not an entry-level model. It comes with a 250GB hard disk for storing print jobs and user data. A web interface lets you keep track of anything you might want to keep track of. You can store frequently used documents on the hard disk. You can store sensitive documents with password protection, which can be accessed by entering a pincode or swiping a card through the reader.

The printer comes with 1GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 2GB. It's easy to do this yourself; by removing a cover you will reveal the memory slot.

The CLX-8385NX has room for 520 sheets, which can be expanded to a total of 3,140 sheets by adding extra paper trays. The ADF can fit 100 sheets, and it will automatically scan double-sided. There is also an optional finisher you can buy. You can read the rest of Samsung CLX-8385NX preview on Hardware.info.
