Lenovo has enlisted the services of Hollywood A-lister Ashton Kutcher as a product engineer to carry on a trend that has seen the likes of Lady GaGa and Alicia Keys employed by technology companies.
The announcement coincided with the launch of Lenovo’s new Yoga Tablet and Kutcher will work to market the Yoga line of tablets across the globe.
“This partnership with Lenovo brings together my love of technology and design that makes your life better. I can’t wait to dig in and help Lenovo develop future mobile computing products, starting with the Yoga Tablet. Lenovo is all about innovation and strong leadership. Entrepreneurship is part of their DNA, and I couldn’t ask for a better fit,” Kutcher stated.
Lenovo’s press release went on to state that Kutcher will work together with the firm’s engineering teams and provide input and decision making on everything from design and specifications to software and usage scenarios.
"This partnership goes beyond traditional bounds by deeply integrating him into our organization as a product engineer as we look at developing the next wave of products,” said David Roman, CMO at Lenovo.
The new Yoga Tablet, which was part of the same launch, comes in 8in and 10.1in screen sizes and offers three different states – hold mode, stand mode, and tilt mode.
Inside the case there is a MediaTek quad-core processor that is clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM with an impressive 18 hours of battery life. There are all the usual connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, BlueTooth and GPS and models come with onboard storage of either 16GB or 32GB with a microSD slot allowing expansion up to 64GB.
It has a 5-megapixel rear snapper and a 1.6-megapixel one on the front with prices starting at £199 for the Wi-Fi 8in 16GB version.
Kutcher has a long line of technology investments as a cofounder of A-Grade Investments, which has provided venture capital for the likes of Airbnb, Foursquare, Spotify, Path and Uber.
