YPlan, Dattch and Hassle named among best UK startups of 2014

A booking site for household cleaners and a dating app that "helps you find Eve, not Steve" have been named among the winners at the inaugural Elevator Pitch Awards.

Over 150 startups applied this year to the awards run by Tech City News, in categories that included Most Disruptive Startup, Standout Success, and Fastest Growing Startup.

Hassle, a booking site for independent cleaners aimed at busy Londoners, took the top Startup of the Year award, as chosen by Tech City News readers.

Dating app Dattch was only narrowly beaten, receiving 12 per cent of the votes compared to Hassle's 15 per cent, while social dining network TableCrowd, vehicle sharing site GoCarShare and social web monitor Buzz Radar all came in third place with eight per cent of the votes each.

The winner of the Fastest Growing Startup category was "spontaneous going out" app YPlan. Recently, the London-based startup launched onto Android as part of its plans to expand globally.

Glow, a social advertising platform, was awarded the Standout Success prize, having raised almost £1 million in seed funding for its US expansion in January. It is also one of just 12 developers named as a strategic marketing partner for Facebook.

CEO of Glow Damian Routley said, "I'm delighted to receive this award on behalf of Glow. We've had an amazing year as we've grown from a team of 9 to now 45, working across 4 cities.

"It's a great accolade of all the hard work the team has put in and a great boost as we focus on our continued global growth and working hard to build upon our success."
