Zeebox is the UK’s most talked about startup after research showed there is more buzz surrounding the social television app then any other.
Synthesio, a social media listening platform, reported that Zeebox beat out competition from both Swiftkey and Zoopla with the victory down to the way it uses social media.
“Zeebox has created a lot of online buzz by fully integrating social media into the app. This strategy has helped to create a huge number of online conversations which have grown steadily over the last few months. Swiftkey has been particularly successful in the US, with many users recommending it to their friends and followers,” said Catriona Oldershaw, UK MD of Synthesio.
Synthesio’s research looked at technology startups from the past five years and used various parameters to work out the 19 sites that had the highest buzz surrounding them.
The results of the research were a close run thing as Zeebox had a 16 per cent share of conversation, just ahead of keyboard app Swiftkey on 15 per cent and then property website Zoopla with 13 per cent.
Other sites that created a sizeable buzz on social media were Hailo, the taxi app, with 7.7 per cent and lastly luxury fashion site Farfetch with 6.4 per cent. UK startups also fared well abroad with Swiftkey having the highest buzz in the US and Skyscanner, the flight search engine, the most talked about UK startup in Asia.
“The purpose of our research was to cut through media hype to identify which UK startups consumers were actually talking about. It is great news for the sector that many UK tech companies have managed to achieve a substantial profile outside the UK and Europe.” Oldershaw added.
The top 19 startups identified by Synthesio are as follows:
- Green Man Gaming
- Synthesio UK
- Funding Circle
- Secret Escapes
