So reliable are Apple’s traditions that a year without a new iPhone would surely feel like a year without Santa Claus for some. While Santa’s status could still change at any moment, this year we were fortunate enough to see not one, but two new smartphones from Apple: The high-end, luxurious iPhone 5S and the “unapologetically plastic” iPhone 5C.
Although there are plenty of fine Android phones out there as well, the new iPhone 5S is selling very quickly – in fact it’s currently top of Uswitch.com’s mobile tracker, pushing the Galaxy S4 out. And while the iPhone 5C might not be doing quite so well, it’s making steady enough progress.
With the Christmas shopping season now in full swing, there are sure to be plenty of folks getting themselves a shiny new iPhone over the next couple of weeks.
But why stop at just the phone? iPhone accessories that add functionality and fun to your phone are plentiful, and we’ve picked out five of the best here – including a case, earphones, and a physical keyboard add-on.
These gifts won’t break the bank, but they will add a lot of utility to an Apple smartphone. So without further ado, we present our suggestions for the iPhone lover in your life...
Lego Life of George (£30)
Part iPhone game, part Lego set, Life of George blurs the virtual world with real-life play so much that it’s hard to tell where one stops and the other starts.
Build an object, scan it, and interact with it on your iPhone. It’d be frightening if it didn’t sound like so much fun.
Lifeproof Nuud (£75)
If the iPhone owner in your life also loves the great outdoors, the waterproof, dust-proof, and drop-proof Lifeproof Nuud case is a good choice. We appreciate this case for its robust protection from the elements, and the fact that it manages to achieve this without the compromises found in other rugged cases.
Apple TV (£99)
There may not have been a new Apple TV this year, but this set-top box is still one of the best ways to share content from your iPhone onto your HDTV using the AirPlay streaming feature.
TDK EB950 (£30)
High quality earphones are a must with a new iPhone. Ditch those bundled Apple EarPods and give the TDK EB950 a listen. These in-ear 'phones bring the bass and deliver top-notch overall sound quality, and you can pick them up considerably cheaper now compared to the price they first launched at.
Boxwave Keyboard Buddy Backlit Edition (£60)
At this point, most people seem pretty accustomed to touchscreen typing. However, if the iPhone owner in your life is still longing for the physical phone keyboards of yore, Boxwave has the ideal solution with its Keyboard Buddy Backlit Edition.
