It looks like 2014 may be the year of the rainbow phone, as a recent leak revealed that HTC could be prepping its own brightly coloured handset for the mid-range market.
Apple set the bar with the launch of the positively phosphorescent iPhone 5C back in September, whilst Nokia is famed for its colourful Lumia range. HTC would appear to be following suit after a series of images obtained by digitaltrends from a "Chinese source" revealed a set of vibrant devices with slightly curvy rear panels, one red and one mint green.
Put on your sunglasses and look past the irradiated shell, however, and you'll find the insides of the smartphone are equally dazzling. According to the same mysterious "Chinese source", HTC has inked a deal with MediaTek that will let the company power its new smartphones with the cheaper MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor.
This is significant because many suspect the leaked smartphone will be the newest addition to HTC's Desire family, and previously all Desire handsets have used Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips. On the other hand MediaTech are a much cheaper brand, meaning the new HTC Desire could be more affordable to those whose pennies are truly pinched.
If true, the rumour also states that the smartphone will also pack a 5in screen with 720p resolution, 1.5GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. It's also expected to run Android 4.3 and, interestingly, HTC Sense 5.5 over the top rather that the new COS operating system from China that many expect.
More details may be released at Mobile World Congress, so stay tuned with ITProPortal who will be attending in a few weeks time.
