So the Galaxy S5 announcement is set for later this month, but you don’t want one of those… what you really want is a Black Edition Galaxy S4. Right? Well, that’s what Samsung has just announced, along with a black S4 mini to boot.
Of course, there are plenty of folks who don’t want to jump on the latest smartphones, and would rather get a year-old model, saving quite a few quid in the process.
They might be further tempted to go with the Galaxy S4 now that Samsung has revealed the new Black Edition model, which boasts a “premium” design. In other words, not only is it black, but it has a faux-leather textured rear cover and bezel.
This will certainly appeal to some as the S4’s glossy plastic finish has come in for a fair bit of criticism, with many feeling that it’s a very cheap finish for a high-end phone. The S5, of course, may well dispense with the plastic entirely and go with a metal chassis (quite possibly aluminium).
Other than the new quality black finish, the specs of the Galaxy S4 and S4 mini will remain the same. The UK launch date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it will be announced in due course.
As a small bonus, the new Black Edition will come with eight exclusive wallpapers, and several new ringtones (Back in Black by AC/DC, possibly – feel free to offer up your own suggestions in the comments, although anyone mentioning Black Lace will be instantly ostracised).
