British holidaymakers will rejoice at the news that EE has extended its superfast 4G network to Spain and France with “all major travel destinations” set to follow later in the year.

The UK network announced that consumer and small business customers can enjoy coverage immediately with corporate customers to follow and the firm confirmed details of a variety of different data bundles for those wanting to use 4G data abroad.

“Our customers will be the first to benefit in France and Spain today, with the most popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months. Whether it’s working on the move, social networking, using maps, or just finding a great place to eat in an unknown city, our customers will now benefit from the same superfast and reliable mobile experience at home and overseas,” said Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE.

EE plans to extend 4G coverage across various other holiday destinations in time for the summer including USA, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Data roaming bundles start off at £3 for 100MB of data within a 24-hour period and customers with a 4GEE Extra plan can also enjoy unlimited roaming minutes and texts to select countries as part of the new offering.

The new roll out comes just a day after EE was crowned the UK’s best mobile network by an independent study carried out by RootMetrics. EE achieved a RootScore of 84.6 out of 100 for overall performance and outdid all three of the country’s other major mobile phone networks.

It meant that it was the best in terms of network speed and reliability due in no small part to the fact that it gained a leg up on its competitors by rolling out its 4G network far in advance of anyone else and has continued to invest in it at a rate of knots.
