Latency needs to improve quickly: Flash storage and deduplication are key

What Amlin CTO Steve O'Donnell doesn't know about the IT industry probably isn't worth knowing. He's watched enterprise storage develop over the years and let us know his thoughts on how it can go even further.

According to Steve, there have been massive cost and capacity improvements but performance just hasn't been able to evolve in the same way. In fact, average access times and latency have hardly changed over the course of 20 years.

He thinks that flash - which is ideal for highly-virtualised work environments - has the ability to change this. Deduplication and data reduction are also crucial.
