Apple's Mac renaissance has seen the brand embarking on an all conquering quest and competitors will have to be worried after watching yesterday's launch of Penryn-based iMacs.

Three new iMacs have been released; two 20-inchers capable of displaying 1680x1050 and one 24-inch version with a 1920x1200 display (Ed : bets are on for a 2400x1280 26-inch display next)

All three CPUs are Core 2 Duo models loaded with 6MB L2 cache clocked at 2.4GHz, 2.66GHz and 2.8GHz respectively with 1066MHz FSBs.

The parts start at $1,199 (that's £799 in UK terms) with the entry level cramming only 1GB worth of DDR2 memory and a 128MB ATI Radeon 2400XT while the 24-incher gets a 512MB Nvidia 8800GS and up to 4GB of memory.

A 3.06GHz model is also available for those looking for even more power; problem is that according to some sources the CPU isn't even available from Intel yet.

As with other iMacs, you get computer gifted with a superb design and encased an Aluminium frame.

Other features include Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 802.11n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, built-in iSight cam, 5x USB 2.0 (2x of which are on the keyboard), 1x Firewire 400 and 1x Firewire 800.
