The airline plans to install concise mobile phone masts which will allow passengers to make calls and receive messages through their mobile phones.
Initially these masts will be fitted onboard in only 16 aircrafts of its fleet and if in case the plan takes off well the company plans to extend the facility to all 166 aircrafts that it currently has.
Though at this moment the company has not mentioned any accurate charges for this service, it is widely expected that it would cost close to 2GBP per minute.
Though use of mobile phones is likely to be welcomed by many, there are critics who argue that this move may disturb passengers; however Michael O'Leary the CEO Ryanair had previously brushed off the protests by saying “'If you want a quiet flight, use another airline, Ryanair is noisy, full and we are always trying to sell you something.”
