  • 7Digital and Songbird Partner To Compete With iTunes

19 March, 2009, by Desire Athow

In a bid to take on Apple’s iTunes, music sharing website 7digital.com has joined hands with the open source music player site Songbird, to offer music enthusiasts a sophisticated music downloading service.

The new joint venture will pave way for the integration of the 7digital.com’s music store with the customisable digital media player from Songbird, allowing users of Songbird in Europe and US to purchase, download, and transfer music from the music catalogue of 7digital.com.

The new integrated service will work in a manner similar to the iTunes, as the users can access the 7digital.com’s music catalogue link from the menu presented by the Songbird website, without quitting the Songbird application at all.

Once a user purchases or downloads any music track or album from the catalogue, it automatically gets stored in the Songbird’s library. In addition, the new service would also allow users to transfer their favourite music tracks to various compatible players from SanDisk, Samsung, and Phillips.

In order to keep the users interested in purchasing the tracks, 7digital.com further recommends music on the basis of recently played music track list.

The new integrated service can be accessed at ‘getsongbird.com’, while direct purchase of MP3s is available in the US and parts of Europe, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, and France.
