  • OUT-LAW Breakfast Seminars

15 September, 2008, by Desire Athow
Out-law is running a series of free, one-hour OUT-LAW Seminars in October and November. The seminars are on contract management and information security - further details are below. As well as subject matter that we hope will be of interest to you, the seminars also offer useful networking opportunities.

If you or any colleague would like to attend either or both of the seminars, please visit our website to reserve your place by going here.

    1. Making your contract work: pitfalls and best practices

Using the example of a major IT contract, our lawyers explain what happens in the weeks and months after the contract has been signed. This is not a tutorial in writing a contract – it's a legal, commercial and practical look at how best to deal with common issues that arise after the ink has dried. The event is for anyone involved in managing long-term contracts, such as development projects, IT outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing.

    Article continues after advert
    We will cover:
    •    How to handle post-contract specifications
    •    Managing a project timetable and dealing with delay
    •    Controlling the risk of escalating costs
    •    Solutions for projects in trouble

    Birmingham - 21 October
    Manchester - 22 October
    London - 23 & 28 October
    Leeds - 23 October
    Glasgow - 28 October
    Edinburgh - 30 October

    2. Transferring data: the information security issues

We explain how to identify, manage and mitigate the information security risks that arise when transferring data to suppliers and others. These risks have never been higher for private and public sector organisations, a consequence of recent security lapses making front-page news and increased powers for the UK's privacy chief.

    Our lawyers will cover:
    •    The current legal environment
    •    Best practice guidance
    •    Current practices that have to change
    •    Dealing with information security in contracts
London - 4 & 11 November and an evening seminar on 13 November
    Leeds - 6 November
    Manchester - 12 November
    Birmingham - 18 November
    Edinburgh - 18 November
    Glasgow - 20 November

The seminars are free and are held in our offices. The breakfast events open at 8am for registration, networking, coffee and pastries; then the seminar begins at 8.30am and lasts about 60 minutes including a questions and answers session at the end.

We have also added an extra date in London for the information security topic and will be running the seminar on the evening of 13 November. The event will begin at 5.30pm for registration followed by the presentation, questions and answers and the networking over a glass of wine and canapés.
