  • XP SP3 brings surprising speed boosts

26 November, 2007, by Desire Athow
Bloggers at exo-blog are reporting a surprising performance gain after upgrading to Windows XP SP3.

This bodes well for an Operating system that has already been written off by Microsoft.

In a controlled environment - using a Dell XPS M1710 test bed with 2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 1GB of RAM and discrete nVidia GeForce Go 7900GS video, Windows XP3 completed a series of tests, nearly 10 percent faster than a similar computer equipped with Windows XP SP2 without any additional patches

Although SP3 is meant to be no more than a string of patches and fixes, it looks as if the speed boost will be a "nice bonus" and will further cement the perception in many hardcore Windows XP users, that the 7-year old operating system is more stable and faster than Vista, prompting some to say that Vista looks just like another Windows Millennium.

The tests were performed using XPnet's freely available office-based benchmarking tools.
