The popular social network for professionals, Linkedln, has started to offer third party productivity application over its network.

Currently most applications offered on Linkedln are productivity based and their introduction is likely to evolve the platform from a mere professional networking and resume sharing platform to a collaborative tool.

Some of the prominent apps that have been included in Linkedln include one from Box.net that allows a user to seamlessly upload and manage files from his Linkedln profile; in addition it allows them to share and edit their documents.

Other notable applications include Huddle.net’s remarkable Workspaces app that facilitates secure document collaboration, Google’s Presentation app that allows PowerPoint files to be directly included into an user’s profile and TripIt’s My Travel which helps in tracking an user travel stats.

Expressing his enthusiasm with the development Linkedln cofounder Reid Hoffman mentioned “This initial roll out features productivity applications that range from gathering information that professionals around you are generating to enhancing your abilities to collaborate and communicate more effectively.”
