Google Extend Search Engine Lead in US Market, Reaches 70 percent
Google has breached the 70 percent mark in terms of queries entered by the US web searchers.
According to a four-week study from Hitwise that ended on 26 July, the search engine behemoth grabbed a whopping 70.77 percent US search market share, followed by Yahoo with 18.65 percent.
MSN Search from Microsoft, turned out to be the biggest loser, as its share has dropped down to a minimal 5.36 percent, which was 8.79 percent for the same period in 2007.
Yahoo also experienced a steep downfall in its search business across US, as the company’s share reduced to 18.65 percent as against 22.13 percent a year ago.
In order to recover from the ongoing slump in its search business, Microsoft offered USD 44.6 billion deal to acquire Yahoo, but the things haven’t materialized yet, and the software giant is incessantly attempting to achieve the much-needed acquisition.
The remaining 47 search engines of US account for a negligible 1.69 percent searches together.
Despite its huge searching capabilities, Google lags far behind in terms of time people spends on its website, and Yahoo scores far better off, with an average of 3 hours and 31 minutes, as against 2 hours for Google, and 2 hours and 16 minutes for Microsoft. Tags: Search, google
