Remote Access - working from outside the office?

‘VPN’s’, ‘OWA’, ‘TS Session’, phrases you are probably hearing more often then not in our ever evolving mobile society, unfortunately part of this evolution is the increase in associated IT jargon that people tend to throw around as much as possible, its no wonder that as a result we all get a little lost sometimes. But what are these technologies, how do they tie into remote access, and why might you need it for your business?

In today’s business climate, companies have become more distributed, and frequently work across time, space, and organizational boundaries.

The nature of teams has also changed significantly; teams are now commonly made up of onsite employees as well as consultants, vendors, and others working in a variety of geographical locations.

Considering this and the growing requirement for flexible working hours, and the ability to work from home, there is now more then ever a need for staff to be able to access office based IT resources remotely from any location, depending on the situation.

The ability to utilise remote access has become readily available over the past few years with the advance of current networking technologies.
