  • Comment : The Importance Of Operational Excellence Is Rising

14 January, 2009, by Matthes Derdack

During critical economic times operational excellence becomes a key factor for retaining existing customers.

To a large extent operational excellence is based on business continuity which in today's business is often heavily dependent on the availability of critical IT systems.

IT system and business process monitoring has already been the focus of CIOs and IT departments and good progress has been made in developing capabilities for detecting critical events.

The next step consists of software and services for automated event notifications, notification workflows and automation of problem resolution, already offered by a few specialized vendors.

In the near future complete systems for business continuity management will become state-of-the-art.

Companies neglecting the importance of monitoring, resolution procedures and automated notification workflows will fall behind quickly.

Businesses investing in contemporary solutions will see an immediate positive impact on systems availability and cost savings.

As an example Boehringer Ingelheim Netherlands recently invested in an automated notification workflow system which increased IT uptime by about 1% and has already saved US$ 0.5 million in lost company-wide staff productivity – all within just a few weeks.
