Acer Launches Android-based Liquid Smartphone With Snapdragon Inside

Taiwanese manufacturer Acer has demoed a new smartphone called the Liquid which is build around an ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz which runs on Google's Android 1.6 OS.

It is the first time that the two components are brought together by a major manufacturer and the Liquid itself is a rebranded A1 smartphone (ed: didn't it run on Windows Mobile before?). We'd be curious to find out what graphics subsystem the phone uses.

Apart from the 1GHz processor, it has a 800x480 3.5-inch (or is it 3.8 inch?) touch sensitive capacitive screen (that's more than twice the pixel count of an iPhone), a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and autotagging but no flash, A-GPS, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. You can add another 16GB storage through a microSD card.

As expected, the mobile phone will come with a number of default applications that accompany Android. You will find the whole set of Google applications, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr as well as a few others.

There's also a Spinlets application which promises "free streaming of worldwide music and video" to share "with friends and family through web-posting or e-mail". Arguably, we're assuming that the networks will be happy about it.

Online mobile retailer Expansys also says that it comes with Android 2.0 (although this particular version has yet to be formally announced) and is offering the phone on pre-order. 

No pricing or release dates have been confirmed or even leaked to the press. The phone was initially announced back in March 2009.
