Microsoft is all set to introduce the public beta editions of its new Office 2010 and Sharepoint 2010 software by November this year, however no specific date has been announced.
The announcement for Microsoft was made by its CEO Steve Ballmer on Monday at its Sharepoint Conference in Las Vegas where he also claimed that the Sharepoint 2010 will be the “biggest and most important release of Sharepoint till date”.
Sharepoint 2010 includes deeper integration with MS Office, provides support for web audio and video and sports a bunch of new features. These include the Business Connectivity Services that will allow users to funnel data from external sources into Sharepoint and Office more easily than the previous versions.
The new iteration of Sharepoint also comes with built in rich media support besides offering better cloud based services and enterprise wise search capabilities. With a high growth rate of more than 20%, Sharepoint has pulled in $1.3 billion revenue last year and has been considered as a big bright spot for the software giant.
With Office 2010, Microsoft will hope to continue its success story in the office suite application domain and it is also rolling out a free stripped down version of its Office software which will be supported by adverts.
