Facebook Is Now The Third Largest Video Site In US, Says Nielson
According to a new study conducted by leading media research firm Nielson, social networking major Facebook has surprisingly emerged as the number 3 video site in the US.
In its VideoCensus reports, Nielson mentions that Facebook, which currently is only trailing behind YouTube and Hulu, has jumped up from the number 10 position last month.
The social networking site has generated more than 217 million streams in October resulting in 31.5 million viewers as opposed to 110 million streams with 23 million viewers in September.
Meanwhile, YouTube quite expectedly got the number 1 slot with 6,632,964,000 streams and 105,923,000 viewers beating Hulu which had 632,662,000 streams with 13,472,000.
However, it is to be noted that, Facebook had more than double the number of viewers Hulu had for the month of October. Earlier this year, Facebook had bagged the premier of NBC’s show Community.
On the whole, the number of US video watchers has come down from 139.3 million in September to 138.6 million in October. The number of streams, however, increased to11.2 billion in October from 11.02 billion in September. The number of streams per person was up to 81 in October from 79.1 in September and the time spent per viewer was up to 212.5 minutes vs. 195.2 minutes in September.
