Motorola's promising Android-based successor to the Dext, the Droid, will be launched in the UK at the beginning of December and will be renamed as the Milestone.
The phone is currently listed at Expansys, Clove and SuperEtrader from £424 on pre-order with release dates on the 7th of December.
The phone will go head to head against the iPhone, the HD2, the N900, X6, N97 and a host of other Android-based smartphones including its own little brother, the Dext.
The Droid however has one big difference, it runs on Android 2.0. Other than that, it comes with 16GB onboard storage, a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
The screen is particularly sharp, sporting one of the highest screen resolution we've seen on any smartphone. It will be particularly helpful to display the latest Google Maps navigation software that is bundled with it.
There's also a 5-megapixel camera, a Flash 10 ready HTML web browser, a 1400mAh battery, WiFi, a 3.5mm headphone plug, A-GPS, digital compass and the whole range of Google applications.
Our Comments
Orange or Vodafone should be picking this little gem. Note that the prices quoted above are for SIM free models. It will be interesting to see what impact the Dext and the Droid will have on Motorola's revenues over the next few months. Interesting times indeed.
